Einmotoriger, zweisitziger Doppeldecker mit offenem Cockpit. Holzbauweise mit Stoffbespannung und klappbaren Fl\u00fcgeln.<\/p><p>Der Erstflug des D.H.60 Moth fand am 22. Februar 1925 in Stag Lange statt. Am Steuer des mit einem Cirrus Motor best\u00fcckten G-EBKT sass Geoffrey De Havilland.<\/p><p>In den 20er Jahren war die Moth das meistgebaute Sportflugzeug in England. Ihr Marktanteil erreichte zeitweise 85%. Nachdem sich die D.H.50 in Australien sehr gut bew\u00e4hrt hatten, wurde De Havilland f\u00fcr eine ger\u00e4umigeres Nachfolgemodell angefragt. 1928, nach nur 10 Wochen Entwicklungszeit flog der Prototyp im Dezember 1927 zum ersten Mal. Ab 1928 erfolgte der Linieneinsatz in Australien.<\/p><p>Total 10 St\u00fcck wurden gebaut und in Australien, Kanada und England eingesetzt. Wohl die interessanteste Variante war die vom &#8222;Daily Mail&#8220; eingesetzte. Um den einsitzigen Eindecker so stromlinienf\u00f6rmig als m\u00f6glich zu halten, wurde er um seinen Testpiloten Hubert Broad herumgebaut.<\/p><p>Es wurden vor allem Hochgeschwindigkeitsfl\u00fcge und Testfl\u00fcge f\u00fcr neue Motoren durchgef\u00fchrt, die den Cirrus Motor abl\u00f6sen sollten.<\/p><p>Im August 1927 erreichte Broad auf dem geschlossenen 100km Rundkurs eine Geschwindigkeit von 300.09 km\/h (186.47 mph).<\/p><p>Total wurden 2 Maschinen gebaut. Das erste Expemplar war bei seinem Erstflug am 7. Dezember 1928 noch mit einem De Havilland Ghost Motor best\u00fcckt,einem luftgek\u00fchlten V8 mit 200 PS. Dieser erwies sich zu schwach und wurde in der Folge durch einen Armstrong Siddeley Lynx Sternmotor mit 240 PS ersetzt.<\/p><p>Nur 8 Exemplare wurden gebaut, das letzte besass einen 300 PS Wright Whirlwind Motor, um besser gegen amerikanische Konkurrenzmuster zu bestehen. Der schlanke Rumpf war aus Holz aufgebaut und mit Sperrholz beplankt. Angetrieben war das Flugzeug von einem 80 PS Gipsy IV Reihenmotor.<\/p><p>Urspr\u00fcnglich mit zwei separaten offenen Cockpits gebaut, wurde die Maschine schliesslich als D.H.81A mit einer einteiligen Haube ausgeliefert, was die H\u00f6chstgeschwindigkeit um 12 km\/h anhob.<\/p><p>Geoffrey De Havilland flog das Flugzeug am 21. August 1931 zum ersten Mal. Testfl\u00fcge und Verbesserungen folgten bis 1932, aber eine Serienfertigung wurde nie aufgenommen. Nicht weniger als 8&#8217;868 Exemplare wurden zwischen 1931 und 1944 gebaut, viele davon dienten als Basistrainer f\u00fcr die RAF, welche den Typ erst 1952 ausser Dienst stellte.<\/p><p>Abgeleitet aus der D.H.60 Moth flog der Prototyp zum ersten mal am 26. Oktober 1931 mit Chefpilot Hubert Broad am Steuer. Mit ihrem side-by-side Cockpit (2 Pl\u00e4tze) kan sie n\u00e4her an die Konfiguration moderner Flugzeuge heran, die auszubildende Piloten sp\u00e4ter fliegen w\u00fcrden. Trotzdem zeigte die RAF kein Interesse, und die 164 zwischen 1935 und 1938 gebauten Flugzeuge gelangten allesamt in privaten Besitz.<\/p><p>Der Erstflug fand am 9. Das ganz aus Holz aufgebaute Flugzeug sollte mit kleineren Motoren \u00e4hnliche Leistung bringen, bei wesentlich kleinerem Wartungsaufwand. Der Erstflug war am 22. Juni 1937 in Hatfield, mit Geoffrey De Havilland am Steuer.<\/p><p>Mit einem Preis von nur gerade \u00a3 575 war die Moth Minor ein ideales Flugzeug f\u00fcr Flugsportvereine, sofern sich diese vor dem Krieg einen modernen Tiefdecker zulegen wollten.<\/p><p>Von den bis Kriegsbeginn gebauten 100 Flugzeugen waren 9 mit einem geschlossenen Cockpit ausger\u00fcstet und wurden so als Coup\u00e9 bezeichnet. Bei Kriegsausbruch fehlte in England die Produktionskapazit\u00e4t f\u00fcr Sportflugzeuge, und die Produktionseinrichtungen samt einiger unfertiger Flugzeuge wurden nach Australien verschifft.
